EU Political Spectrum

In this post we are going to analize the current political scenario in the EU. For that we have gathered information of the 28 countries that compose the European Union and classified the governments within three groups: right, center and left.

In the following graphic we have a map with distribution of them:

If we analyze the information in aggregated terms we observe that half of the European countries have a right wing government, around a third a left wing government and 14% a centrist one. We can she that in the following pie chart.

If we aggregate the information in terms of population we obtain a slight different outcome with 58% of the EU population having a right wing government. This increase in percentage is due to the fact that 3 of the 4 biggest countries have a right wing government (Germany, Spain and UK). This increase has transformed in a decrease in the left wing government percentage which is now at 27%, remaining the centrist at 15%.
